My new ‘Hilly’ socks (thanks Margaret) got their first outing today. A gentle 8.5 mile run earlier this afternoon organised by Grace. I usually run in ordinary, everyday socks so really noticed the difference and I’m definitely a convert. Pair 2 will get their turn tomorrow as there’s another run on offer. It was a very comfortable run and I’m pleased to be piling up some extra miles before the end of the year.
Clocking up miles is going to be the order of the day as I’ll need to be doing in the range of 30-50 miles a week over the next few months. The Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday runs I’ve been used to so far amount to a measly 13 so running is going to feature quite a bit more in 2019. I’ll also need to work out which of the shorter runs I can use to practice running at varied pace, something I want to work much harder on than I have previously. Looking forward to all this!
I work distance in to mid-week runs by running to and from club runs – that only adds 1.4 miles in winter if I go direct but there’s no need to go direct! Running there and back as a warmup with an effort on the club run might work. Also a recovery run after your long run will give you a few more miles …

I’m thinking of doing the same Liz. A run from Acocks Green to Kings Heath would add about 4 miles each way but I could drive half way and add a couple of miles there and back.
